Safe Speeds
Speed Limit Reduction on Albany Highway
The initial speed limit reduction along Albany Highway between Armagh Street, Victoria Street and Welshpool Road, St James was 50km/h. This section of Albany Highway was considered a recognisable and dedicated shopping and commercial precinct which attracts a high volume of pedestrians to the area. A 40km/h speed zone change was supported as it significantly reduced the number of crashes associated with speed and poor site distance. Initial indications are that the lower speed has resulted in significant reductions in the number of crashes.

Trial Hoon Cushions Project to Slow Down Traffic
In a number of locations across the precinct the Town of Victoria Park have installed raised plateaus as traffic calming devices. These serve not only to slow traffic but also help decrease the severity of accidents at the intersection/s they are present.
Speed Display Trailer
The Town of Victoria Park has used a speed display trailer for a number of years to educate drivers about safe travel speeds.
Bin Sticker Program
The Town of Victoria Park has implemented a "Please Slow Down, Consider Out Kids" bin sticker project to educate drivers to slow down in residential high pedestrian areas.
Safe Road Use
Driver distraction
The Town of Victoria Park have been involved with the co-ordination of a driver distraction campaign to educate drivers of the dangers of driver distraction. The campaign ran over 6 weeks with displays at the council office, recreation centre and libraries.
Safe Roads & Roadsides
Black Spot Projects
Annually, Black Spot Project funding applications are made for future enhancements to roads and roadsides. Black Spot projects target those road locations where crashes are occurring. By funding measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts at dangerous locations, the program reduces the risk of crashes. Programs of this sort are very effective, saving the community many times the cost of the relatively minor road improvements that are implemented.
Anti Hoon Project
As mentioned above, this includes raised plateaus to slow down traffic.
