Targeting driver distraction

Posted on: Tuesday, 22 July 2014 at 12:00:00 AM

The Town of Cottesloe and Shire of Peppermint Grove is working with WALGA’s RoadWise Program to address safe road use by displaying information at local libraries and running a ‘driver distraction’ competition to raise awareness of driver distraction.

Driver distraction is estimated to play a role in 32% of all road crash fatalities and serious injury crashes here in Western Australia. The driving task requires your full attention in order to protect yourself, your passengers and other road users. The Town of Cottesloe and Shire of Peppermint Grove remind people that common distractions such as mobile phones, reading a map or GPS and eating/drinking takes away your concentration whilst driving consequently reducing your chances of remaining safe on the road.

The competition draw will take place on 8 August 2014 with three lucky winners, who correctly answer the road safety questions, winning a $100 Coles/Myer gift card and a bag of road safety goodies.
