South West NAIDOC Week Events Incorporate Road Safety Messages

RoadWise Committees across the South West region attended two of the NAIDOC Week events held in the region to encourage communities to take action to reduce road trauma.

The first event was the Collie Community Service Expo and Open Day, a partnership between the Shire of Collie Community Safety and Crime Prevention Committee and the Industry Road Safety Alliance South West.

The event, which also brought together various government departments including the Department of Transport, was held at the shopping arcade and featured a range of road safety information and promotions. The Shire of Collie RoadWise Committee's M8 the call can W8 selfie frame and bumper stickers proved popular, with locals signing a pledge not to use their mobile phone while driving. Vehicle safety information including Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) car safety ratings and tyre tread depth gauges were also available.

The second event, the South West NAIDOC Family Fun Day, Deadly Jobs and Health Expo, was held at the Bunbury Trotting Track. The City of Bunbury RoadWise Committee set up an information display, featuring the M8 the call can W8 selfie frame, mobile phone pouches and the City's Please Slow Down, Consider Our Kids bin sticker initiative. Child car restraint information and wrist bands promoting the 'belt up' restraints message were also available as part of the display.
