Funded Grants Round 2 July 2010

City of Fremantle, City of Fremantle Speed Display Trailer - $20,000.00
The City of Fremantle serves as a hub for commercial and tourism generated activity with heavy vehicle corridors accessing the Fremantle Harbour, light industrial, seven day trading in the CBD as well as a functional fishing harbour, beaches, entertainment venues, festivals & a whole host of destinations within the boundaries of the City. Add the estimated 25,000 residents currently within the municipality and the amount of traffic in and out of the City on a daily basis is in the region of 60,000 for the Central business district alone and in excess of 100,000 in through traffic. The City strives to make its roads safe for all users but concedes that not all motorists will adhere to posted limits. To this end the City will use a speed display trailer to be primarily used as a means of temporary passive speed enforcement along hot spots within the City as well as at community special events as an information device complimenting the integrated speed display technology. At emergency or programmed work the speed display trailer will serve as an advanced warning device as well as bolstering a safe environment past worksites on the road. The resource will be shared between the Town’s Engineering, Community Development and Marketing departments. Externally, the Fremantle Police would also be invited to share this resource as well as other emergency services. The speed display trailer will also compliment the City of Fremantle’s combined application for a Community Safe speed Promise project with the cities of Melville and Cockburn.
