1. City of Rockingham - Speed Display Trailer - $16,300

Speeding on local streets within the City of Rockingham is considered to be a major problem for the community particularly around the 27 schools.

The Speed Alert Mobile Unit is a valuable tool that can be used to reduce travel speeds by offering a visual stimulant to the motorist to keep their speed at or below the posted speed limit and will be used in conjunction with community education intiatives and support the Road Safety Council's Reducing Travel Speeds and Reducing Speeding campaigns.

2. Shire of Kondinin - Joint Shire "Slow down Thru town" initiative (Kondinin, Narembeen and Kulin Shires) - $16,390

The Shires of Kondinin, Narembeen and Kulin seek to purchase a speed display trailer to be shared by the Shires.

Other activities include rumble strips, Local Area Targeted Enforcement Signs, crashed car displays, dissemination of educational materials and police enforcement.

3. Shire of Kondinin - Local Area Targeted Enforcement Signs (LATES) - $6,784

The aim of this project is in install 7 LATES around the Shire to increase motorists awareness and perception that there is a police presence and that they will get caught if they break the law. It also aims to educate drivers on road issues at a local level.

4. Halls Creek RoadWise Committee - Halls Creek Croc Festival 2006 - $4,339

The Festival is an innovative event that builds partnerships in regional and remote communities by celebrating youth culture.

The Halls Creek RoadWise Committee plans to set up an interactive display with activities including:

  • Road safety poster competition;
  • Rpad safety poster display;
  • Crash car display;
  • Use of educational strategies from Road Aware and Corrugations to Highways; and
  • Display and promotion of Road Aware program.
