Funded Grants Round 4 September 2006

1. City of Melville - "It's All in the Shorts" - $18,500.00

"It's All in the Shorts" is a project designed to improve the capacity of young men aged 15-25 to deal with health issues they typically face. The program will be delivered utilising peer group discussion and be developed for use in any group setting. Central to the success of the project is the development of a DVD resource which depicts several distinct dramatisations of typical health issues faced by young men. One dramatisation relates to young driver behaviour entitled A Fork in the Road which shows the alternative scenarios based on choices made.

Town of Northam, Shires of Northam, York and Toodyay together with local police have identified that speeding in the area is a behaviour that needs to be targeted as it is causing crashes and deaths on our roads. The Northam RoadWise Committee is seeking a Speed Alert Mobile (SAM) for use in the district. The SAM will be shared amongst Councils on a rotational basis on roads where speeding has been identified as an issue and at events held in the Avon Valley.

5. Midwest Show and Shine Inc - Midwest Show and Shine - $2,510.00

6. Central Metropolitan Community Safety Unit - Operation "Fatal Vision - Alcohol Awareness" - $1,595.00

A primary function of this unit is to contribute to minimising the harms and hazards associated with alcohol and other drug use throughout the District including aspects of drink driving.
