The Code of Conduct was developed and endorsed by the Child Car Restraint Reference Group and will now form part of the Business Rules for Fitters. However to include existing Fitters, an invitation to sign the Code of Conduct has been sent to all current Fitters.
Going forward, this will form part of the Business Rules for Fitters, however is retrospectively being signed by all currently active Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitters.
Older Child Car Restraints
The Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitter course includes discussion and recommendations on dealing with child car restraints that are 10 or more years old.
Currently, child car restraints that comply with the AS/NZS1754:1995 or subsequent Standard can be used in Western Australia. However discontinued use of older restraints is considered safe practice and is in line with manufacturer instructions.
Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitters may stop or terminate a child car restraint inspection or installation based on the age of the restraint and should recommend that the client replace the old child car restraint with a suitable device that is less than 10 years old.
Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitters are advised to seek legal advice as well as the client’s approval before considering confiscating or destroying a client's child car restraint. If you have any queries regarding this, please contact Tammie Deshon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have not received a copy of the Code of Conduct (or have any questions regarding the document) or have queries about older restraints, please contact Road Safety Project Officer (CCR), Tammie Deshon; email@example.com.
