How Can You Shine a Light on Road Safety During May?

WALGA’s RoadWise will once again help support a number of national road safety campaigns during May, including the national Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign.

The Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign aims to raise awareness of the need to prevent deaths and injuries on our roads.

The 2018 Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign will coincide with Road Safety Week to be held from 30 April to 6 May.
The campaign has three parts:

  1. Asking all road users to turn on their headlights on Friday, 4 May as a simple, free and highly visible gesture, to remember those impacted by road trauma and show your commitment to road safety.
  2. Community events or local promotions.
  3. Illuminations in yellow of key icons from 30 April to 6 May.

Local Governments and members of the road safety network are invited to Shine a Light on Road Safety from 30 April to 6 May. The opportunities for involvement are wide and varied, from lighting up local landmarks and icons, to "lighting up" existing road safety initiatives.

If your community will be lighting up a landmark in support of the Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign, please email RoadWise at roadwise@walga.asn.auand we will help promote your participation in this campaign.

WALGA's RoadWise will be developing a resource kit to assist Local Governments and members of the road safety network to participate in the campaign. The kit will include background information and promotional templates which can be adapted to suit local involvement. The resource kit will be available from the RoadWise website in early April.
