Belt Up Improves Safety On and Off the Pitch

The Insurance Commission’s ‘Belt Up’ road safety campaign has partnered with the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) to help improve safety on and off the pitch.

The new $1 million, four-year sponsorship deal will see thousands of cricket helmets distributed free to community cricket clubs across WA. Reducing head injuries on the cricket field is a similar aim to Belt Up’s objective to lessen car crash injuries by wearing a seat belt.

Last year marked the 60th anniversary of the three-point seat belt and 50 years since front seat belts became mandatory in all cars sold in Australia.

The Insurance Commission has supported and funded Belt Up since 1997. In 2019, it paid out half a billion dollars in motor injury insurance claims.
