Nannup Family Fun Day Promotes the Distance of Distraction

The Shire of Nannup Local Drug Action Group and RoadWise Committee was successful in applying for an event grant through the Government of Western Australia’s Road Safety Community Grants Program for its annual Family Fun Day (held in January each year).

This year, approximately 500 families attended the popular school holiday event from around the region.

The event promoted the Road Safety Commission’s 'Distance of Distraction’ campaign, using a banner which shows how looking away from the road for two seconds whilst travelling at 80km/hr means you miss 33 metres or the equivalent of 27 prams.

A standard drinks activity reinforced the importance of not drinking and driving and was supported with information including a guide for staying under 0.05 blood alcohol concentration.

In addition, the Family Fun Day provided information about the 'Please Slow Down, Consider Our Kids’ bin sticker project and the Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitting Service.
