New Report Available: High Occupancy Vehicle Survey

Posted on: Tuesday, 16 February 2021 at 12:00:00 AM

Research has shown that the crash risk for high occupancy vehicles (9 – 25 occupants) and the potential for injury or fatality in a crash are increased compared with other types of vehicles.

Collectively Local Governments manage a significant fleet of high occupancy vehicles (HOVs) that are widely used in different ways by the community.

WALGA’s RoadWise conducted a survey of Local Governments to gain a better understanding of the challenges and issues encountered in coordinating these vehicles.

The findings from this study identify opportunities to provide support to Local Governments to manage the safe use of HOVs. This includes providing research, vehicle safety information and relevant management templates. Also, reducing risks associated with these vehicles, such as consideration of vehicle safety features; capturing, analysing and using incident data; recognition of HOV specific requirements and road safety practices in fleet policies and a range of other measures are addressed in this report.

A copy of the report is now available and can be downloaded from the tools and resources page of the RoadWise website
