WALGA's RoadWise has changed the way it delivers the nationally accredited training course in Type 1 Child Car Restraint (CCR) Fitting to offer expanded opportunities for people looking to provide advice to their community.
The Type 1 Child Car Restraint (CCR) Fitting course is aimed at individuals who are looking to provide information and advice and/or an installation and inspection service to the community or their organisation.
Following a change to the course delivery model, WALGA’s RoadWise will now deliver this course as two separate units.
- Unit One is delivered through external, self-paced learning materials with assessments. It is a knowledge-based unit which aims to increase an individual’s knowledge and ability to provide advice and information to others. Unit One is aimed at individuals who have child car restraint use and or advice as part of their role. On completion of this unit, participants will be eligible to enrol in Unit Two.
- Unit Two is a face-to-face unit which extends the knowledge gained through completion of Unit One and teaches practical installation and inspection skills. Unit Two requires approximately eight hours of face-to-face contact and a minimum of 60 minutes post-course, with assessments. Those wishing to complete Unit Two must have or intend to obtain $10 million Public Liability insurance, undertake and complete the required training, and agree to and abide by the Business Rules for Fitters. Unit Two will be scheduled once sufficient numbers of people in a given area have completed Unit One.
Participants who complete Unit One only, can add value to their existing roles by providing accurate child car restraint advice and information to others in the community. This could include child care workers, health nurses, baby store employees or similar.
Successful completion of both units will enable participants to register as a Type 1 CCR Fitter and become authorised to correctly fit child car restraints to an approved standard. Type 1 CCR Fitters can also give advice and consumer information regarding different types of child car restraints and their suitability for use according to a child’s age and size.
Registered Type 1 CCR Fitters can offer services to clients or people in the community who need a Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitter. Services can be provided voluntarily or on a fee-for-service basis.
