Shire of Exmouth
The Shire of Exmouth is situated 1,270 kilometres north of Perth. It has a population of approximately 2,487 and is 6,261 square kilometres in size. Of the 460 kilometres of roads, more than 65% are unsealed.
Tourists are prevalent, lured by the fishing industry as well as marine wildlife including whale sharks, humpback whales and turtles.
The Shire of Exmouth also has important defence and oil and gas industries.
Although seemingly empty, the North West Coastal Highway is a very busy commercial highway. Take care and be patient when approaching heavy transport and slower vehicles.
Take your time to enjoy the spectacular views and great outback areas, and when driving through town, watch out for the locals!
