Local Government Showcase

Local Government Demonstration Project

The Shire of Manjimup is one of three Local Governments who are participating in a WALGA road safety initiative which aims to demonstrate the significant influence Local Governments can have in the prevention of road death and serious injury through the adoption and application of best practice in road safety.

Over the past 12 months the Shires of Dardanup, Esperance and Manjimup have been working closely with WALGA to embed a road safety management system, based on ISO 3900, for improving the safety performance of the local road network.

The management system being used in the delivery of this project is based on the International Standard for Road Traffic Safety Management System (ISO 39001). Putting a road safety management system in place is allowing the participating Local Governments to prioritise their efforts and resources to better guide actions to work towards a point where no harm will occur on local roads.

This is believed to be the first example of Local Governments using ISO 39001 in Australia and will showcase the Shires of Dardanup, Esperance and Manjimup as leaders in the application of best practice roads safety.
