Road Safety Around Schools

The safety of children travelling to, from, and around schools is an issue of concern for the whole community. The Road Safety Around Schools Guidelines has been developed to provide information, tools and advice to assist Local Governments and school communities to identify and address traffic management and road safety issues around schools.

The guidelines are intended to be practical and include common problems experienced around schools, the issues involved, and suggestions for addressing them. The guidelines also include a list of who to contact about resolving specific issues.

For further information please download an electronic copy of the Road Safety Around Schools Guidelines fact sheet by completing the download form or contact your local Road Safety Advisor.

Two editions of the guidelines have been developed – a Local Government edition and a Schools edition. For an electronic or hard copy of either resource please complete the download form.

Updates: The guidelines contain information about child car restraints which has since changed. For current information about selecting and using child car restraints, please refer to the child car restraints page.
