City of Swan Rewards the Safest Department for Fleet Use

The City of Swan encourages staff to drive safely with the incentive of a department trophy. The opportunity to win the Safest Department Trophy sees staff work together to reduce road incidents while driving fleet vehicles.

The initiative is in its third year, with the creation of a trophy awarded to the department which has the lowest road incidents in fleet vehicles. These include road crashes, vehicle damage and infringements.

A trophy is awarded to the department in each of the light and heavy vehicle fleet which has recorded the lowest amount of vehicle incidents. The award is based on the least number of incidents per thousand kilometres travelled for the light fleet and per hour of work for the heavy fleet.

The trophy presentations take place at the annual City of Swan Christmas party, with the City's Mayor presenting trophies to the winning departments. The winning departments in 2017 were Marketing (for light fleet vehicles) and Waste Fleet (for heavy fleet vehicles).

The City of Swan has a strong safe vehicles policy which is strongly supported by Senior Management, Councillors and staff. The Council also implements all seven elements of Fleet Safety.
