PIARC (World Road Association) has released a comprehensive new resource, Motorcycle Protection Systems & Safety Aspects of Management of Traffic for Motorcycles, providing global best practice insights to help road managers better protect motorcyclists on their network.

Motorcyclists remain one of the most vulnerable road user groups, and even minor infrastructure decisions, such as the placement of roadside hazards, the design of curves or the setup of temporary traffic management, can significantly influence rider safety. As many motorcycle crashes occur on local and regional roads, Local Governments have a critical role in shaping safer environments for riders.

This latest PIARC resource brings together international research, practical treatments, and case studies, offering clear direction on how infrastructure design, roadside protection systems and traffic management practices can be improved to reduce serious crashes involving motorcyclists.

Local Governments are encouraged to explore the resource and consider how its recommendations can support local planning, upgrades, and operational decision‑making.
