Motorcycle Safety at the Mundijong Fair

A number of roads in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale are very popular with motorcyclists, who enjoy the beautiful environment whilst riding around the area.
However motorcyclists are vulnerable road users who are more difficult to see and have less protection than car drivers and occupants. The roads themselves can also pose some different hazards for motorcyclists.
With the safety of motorcyclists in mind, the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale established the Serpentine Jarrahdale Motorcycle Road Safety Group.
This group is looking at a variety of strategies to improve motorcycle safety including: reviewing popular motorcycle routes to identify any specific hazards and maintenance needs; raising awareness of how motorcyclists can keep themselves safe including the use of safety gear, how to be more visible, and training and bike maintenance; promoting sharing the road; and encouraging local businesses to be motorcycle friendly.
At the Mundijong Fair, the focus was on how motorcyclists could improve their own safety by wearing appropriate gear and being more visible to other road users. A quiz provided an opportunity to test people’s knowledge. Fracis Smit was the quiz winner.
