State Traffic Police Open Day
Posted on: Thursday, 23 January 2020 at 12:00:00 AM
The Western Australian Police State Traffic Centre opened its doors to the public on Sunday, 15 December, providing an opportunity to showcase technology, equipment and the work undertaken by traffic police.
Team members from WALGA's RoadWise and the Road Safety Commission attended the event, manning a shared road safety display which included information about driver distraction, the 12 most commonly asked road rules, used car safety ratings and more.
Interactive activities allowed visitors to test their knowledge and reactions when distracted, reinforcing the importance of concentrating on the task of driving. Being distracted for just two seconds while driving at 60km/hr means you travel 33 metres with no eyes on the road - equivalent to driving through 27 prams1.
Members of the public had the opportunity to see a range of police vehicles and equipment, and gain an understanding of the types of technology used by traffic police.
Road Ribbons for Road Safety® were also distributed at the event.
