Speed Limit Review Brings Safety Change for High Pedestrian Areas

The City of Rockingham recently completed a review of speed limits within high pedestrian areas throughout the City.

This was undertaken as part of the City’s Road Safety Action Plan. The plan outlines the use of the Safe System Approach to work towards zero serious injury and fatal crashes on City of Rockingham roads.

The review identified sections on a number of roads where safety would be greatly enhanced if the speed limit was reduced. The City liaised with Main Roads WA, which is responsible for setting speed zones on all roads across the state, and a total of 11 speed limit reductions were approved.

Information about the reductions will be communicated to the community through the City’s website, www.rockingham.wa.gov.au and Facebook page.

Reducing speeds on roads in high pedestrian areas can help to protect vulnerable road users from the physical forces generated in a crash which can lead to serious injuries and fatalities.
