Shared Path Addresses Key Road Safety Issue in Kununurra

The footpath is part of the Shire's Asset Construction Program and was partly funded by the Department of Transport’s WA Regional Bike Network Program. It was initially designed to provide a safe and accessible cycling/walking route for school children after parents voiced their concerns for the kids' safety.
The 4.8km long shared pedestrian and bicycle pathway loops around Kununurra, connecting residential areas with the local schools, hospital, shopping centre and Lakeside suburb. The path creates a dedicated space for kids to walk or cycle to school and increases accessibility for people living with a disability.
Budget has been set aside for signage and landscaping to add to the amenity of the footpath network. Stage two of the footpath program connecting with health services and nearby aboriginal communities is currently under construction.
